Why does software need updates?
Ever feel like your software is out of date or whenever you have a problem with your computer someone is telling you that your software needs to be updated? There are several issues that cause software to need to be updated, the first is errors and oversights by developers, second changing security concerns and the third is changing hardware support.
Microsoft is preparing to make major changes to Microsoft Windows XP and Vista with the release of what is called a service pack. A service pack is a collection of many bug fixes and security updates all packaged together in a single release. Once these updates are tested and bugs in the service packs have been fixed then it will be very important that consumers make these updates.
Patches become more important because when you release a patch you announce a bug and or a security risk to the people who would exploit them. Now, if your computer is not patched then your computer is even more at risk then it was before.
Even great software gets updates and fixes. The best patches are the ones that go on smoothly and with only as much user interaction as the user wants to have. More information will come out soon about Vista Service Pack I and Windows XP Service Pack III and Denver DataMan will be your source for upgrade planning and advice.
