Creating a Secure Password
Creating a Secure Password
Passwords are your primary protection between you and those who would want to log in as you to your bank or other services that require you to login.
A good password needs:
- Letters (not words)
- Numbers
- Capitals and lower case letters
- Symbols like !@#$
- To not have common words
- A1b2C3d4E5f6
- Gr8tpa22w0rdS
- H33haw!
You want your password to be something somewhat complicated but that you can remember. Here is a tool I like to do.
Take your old address or the address or an address that you know but don’t use:
Example: 1301 Fredonia, 61606
- Use the numbers and the letters from the address
- Use the first couple numbers of the zip code and add it as digits to the end
Example: 1301Fredonia616
To make this even stronger you could do:
- 1301FredOni@616
- 1301FredChase0nia616
A few other things:
- Passwords should be changed every couple months to make sure someone does not get your password.
- You should not use the same password for your MySpace account as your bank
- If your IT department at work can see your password, don’t use the same one as your bank or other secure information.
