CAN SPAM Act Rules List

Use this list as a starting point to learn the rules fro the FTC's CAN SPAM Act. You can visit the FTC's SPAM information website for more information. You should also consult your legal council before sending emails if you have a question about how the law applies to your circumstances.

• You have permission from the sender or an existing relationship
• Don’t misrepresent “subject” or “from” addresses
• You must send from a legitimate email address
• Must provide a way to opt-out that is not complicated
• If you receive unsubscribe requests, they must be removed from your list within 10 days - Remove means not emailing the person again unless they re-subscribe
• You can not give incentives for forwarding your email
• Must include a physical address for the sender
