Let The Games Begin

The first full day of programs has been a lot of fun and a lot of learning. Now if talking about how new web technologies are going to make the world a better place is not fun for you, well, then you would probably feel like you were lost in a different world. I must say that at times I feel that way too as my role at Denver DataMan is to work with people who build all the new cool things and that presents the opportunity to learn and grow which isn’t always easy no matter who you are.

DrupalCon Attendee PhotoToday I had a great conversation with other developers and consultants w ho build sites and do projects for nonprofits and NGOs. We are all trying to figure out how to lower the cost of development to do things that most nonprofits need in a way that works for unique use case of each nonprofit we support. Denver DataMan, in conjunction with our partners, will be planning a day where nonprofits in Denver can come and get free or low cost Drupal support or learn about Drupal. Details still need to be set for this.

I am very excited about what will soon be released with Drupal as well as the future of Drupal. The founder of the Drupal project spoke today and talked about the future of Drupal. The leader of the Drupal 7 release (the next version of Drupal) gave a presentation about all of the cool things in the new version and we at Denver DataMan are looking forward to leveraging these new tools for our clients.

The new version of Drupal will let us create a better editing interface for clients and handle specific information related to a client’s project with more ease and at less cost.

I went to two sessions for consultants. The first talked about how to better understand your clients and what they are trying to share with you about their use case. The second was about creating training programs for Drupal. Though both of these are hallmarks of the Denver DataMan experience (we think so and our clients confirm) it is always good to hear what others in the industry have to say. Part of being an open source community is we share (within our confidentiality agreements) success, triumphs and challenges.Copenhagn Buildings

I also had an opportunity to walk through a big part of Copenhagen today which was very nice. This is a picture of some of the great modern buildings that I saw in Copenhagen. There is a great mix of buildings from many different eras of the city.

Tomorrow I will be taking sessions about search engine optimization or SEO, creating a Drupal contact relationship management system (CRM) which I am passionate about, creating better labeling systems, hearing a keynote speaker from a major player in the open source web development community and various other topics. Who knows what conversations in the hall and lunch will bring.
