5 Email Tips

Here are 5 tips for every email user. These tips can are primarily for everyday email, but they can be applied to email marketing as well.

  1. Do not download pictures and other attachments from people you don’t know. When you open graphics in an email, you are often notifying a server that you have opened an email and telling spammers that your email address is correct.
  2. When sending email to a large group of people, especially when sending jokes or other forwards, always use the BCC option. Almost all email programs have a BCC function that does not show any recipient who was included in an email.
  3. Be careful about the size of your attachments. It is best not to send attachments larger than 1MB (Megabyte) without telling someone first. Some email hosts block larger files and some people with phones that check email will have trouble checking email that is so large.
  4. Always include a subject and a body. Your email should include a short subject (about 40 -60 characters) and a message body. Even if you are just forwarding an attachment, just put something in the body. It looks clearer and is less likely to get caught in a SPAM filter.
  5. Avoid using backgrounds and odd fonts because not everyone can see them the same way.
