ACT! (ACT) is a very popular CRM for many users. It has been available longer than most of the popular CRMs, so it has a very dedicated user base. If you are part of this user base, you need to be aware of the critical updates that ACT is making that can remove your access to your data.
When you open ACT, your software uses the Internet to check that your license is active. The company that ACT has partnered with for this check is going out of business, so they have found a new vendor. This new vendor needs new software installed in your ACT. The changes do not impact how you use ACT just how your license gets validated.
However, if you do not get this update then you cannot access your ACT database. For users of versions, 19 and greater, this should all happen automatically with a small update. Before you leave the office for the New Year, you should make sure you have the newest version of ACT.
If you have version 18, ACT has said your update to the new licensing system is coming on January 10, 2019. This means, as we understand it, that you will have ten days without access to ACT. You should make sure you have made copies of the information you need for these ten days.
If you have versions, 17 or lower, ACT does not support your software any longer, and we do not know what will happen to your software. ACT has not made clear if the software will work after the first of 2019. It may work and then stop working as well when there are changes that cause the software to check the license file. There are a lot of unknowns with these older versions.
What we do know is that Denver DataMan is here to help. We can help you with backups no matter what version you are on or migrating to a newer version.
